Craighall's history: uncover the backstory

Established in 1902 by Scottish settler William Rattray, Craighall began as part of the Klipfontein farm, located an hour's journey north of Johannesburg by horse carriage. Rattray transformed the farm into a residential area named after his birthplace in Blairgowrie, Scotland, and developed recreational lakes and parklands, much of which remains today as Delta Park. The suburb is known for its natural beauty, including a cascading waterfall on the Braamfontein Spruit. Originally, "Craighall Acres" were nearly an acre in size, but many have since been subdivided. Today, it is a spacious, leafy suburb with abundant birdlife, minutes from Sandton.
