Kenton-on-Sea - Eastern Cape's Sunshine Coast

Living in a coastal town that attracts a bevy of tourists and holidaymakers is a dream for some, but for many who have uncovered the investment potential and living perks that accompany this, it is a lucrative and beautiful reality. Such a location that balances a majestic backdrop and high residential property returns, is the Eastern Cape's, Kenton-on-Sea.

Tucked away in the “Sunshine Coast”, between Bushman and Kariega Rivers, the town is expected to show continuous growth in the residential housing market especially with buy-to-let investments.

The coastal town experiences an influx holidaymakers during December, with numbers tripling that of the total population size. The main tourist’s attractions are its crystal blue beaches, rolling hills and a nature reserve along its banks.

Beaches in the Eastern Cape are renowned as being the best beaches in South Africa, and to add to its appeal, it is warm and inviting. Considering this, the area attracts major holiday rentals.

Lew Geffen Sotheby’s International Realty has exquisite residential homes from Kenton-on-Sea. These properties make great buy-to-let investments, especially during the holiday period. Currently on the market is a family home for R1 790 000 which has been designed along the concept of ocean-side living. This three bedroom, two bathroom home exudes spaciousness through an open-plan lounge and dining area, which opens up onto a large balcony, with partial views of Bushman's River. This is not a standard home, as it is infused with many additional features, including a wine cellar, covered braai area and a garden and aviary.

Farms on Kenton-on-Sea are also a great investment that have the incredible ability to reel in large amounts of revenue. Not only are farms vast, but they are also functional. A 81-hectare farm situated close to the sea is currently on the market for R6 300 000. The land is 90 percent arable, with an average of 600 mm of rain per annum, specialising in orange orchards, vegetables and flowers. The main house is exquisite and authentic, with a sunken lounge and dining room, and a fibre-glass swimming pool and large garden.

The holiday season is a time when Kenton-on-Sea comes alive, and due to an influx of people who experience the location, many consider living in the coastal village permanently. As a result, the peak selling period is at the end of the season, with increased sales in January and February. The option of buying in the area is always the first consideration, mainly because renting would cost R3000-R15 000 per day, in season. These high rental costs need not be a negative factor, instead, it heightens the desirability of buying a property and letting it out, specifically during peak season. This will guarantee a continuous stream of large amounts of income - most notably during December and January.

The surrounding coastal villages near Kenton-on-Sea are St Francis Bay and Jeffrey’s Bay. Both areas are affluent and serve to add to the property value on Kenton-on-Sea. These areas are witnessing the same trends as Kenton-on-Sea, in which, holiday-makers show significant interest in the area after experiencing its breath-taking natural beauty.

Lew Geffen Sotheby’s International Realty brings residential properties from Kenton-on-Sea that are not only ideal for a getaway or renting out but a majestic place to live permanently, removed from city life.
